The John Lewis department stores offer some of the best value for money on a vast array of goods from the many departments, including electrical goods and tableware and an excellent fabrics and haberdashery section. They also sell clothing, fashion accessories, cosmetics and much more.
Parking & Getting ThereYou can park in the multi-storey King Street car park and walk straight into John Lewis upper floor. You are then near The Place to Eat which is at the top with a balcony overlooking the public area atrium. If you enter the adjoining Queen street car park and drive through, or walk through, your car park ticket must be paid for at a machine in the Queens Car Park (lifts at the other top end of the mall).Step out of John Lewis into the indoor mall and you are next to the information desk for the mall.Coffee BreakOn the lower level you emerge next to the John Lewis Espresso Bar which is in the middle of the mall. The Espresso bar opens before the department store, perhaps for staff or early customers, but closes before the store, so anybody you leave sitting waiting for you has to be collected early. The espresso bar times and some food and drink details and prices are on the website. At the time of writing 9.30-6 Mon-Wed, Thurs until 9, Sat 9-7, Su 11-5.Outside the MallIf you are looking for the store from inside the Harlequin shopping Centre mall, you will see the display windows of John Lewis at the lower end of the mall on the left. If you are outside the Harlequin Centre, it's the lower end of the high street nearest the museum and Watford High Street train station (2 minutes walk). (NB There are two Watford stations. Watford Junction with the buses in front is the other end, ten minutes walk, with a bus connection.)StocksThis department store stocks kitchenware, clothes, furniture, beds, carpets, lighting and more. Opening Hours9.30-6 Monday-Wednesday, Thursday until 9, Saturday 9-7, Sunday 11-5. You can browse from 10.30 am on Sunday.Check the site. Xmas hours differ with extra opening hours.Prices and GuaranteesThe returning goods time limit is 28 days. Their never knowingly undersold policy applies to nearby shops, not their own on line sales nor other people's. Full details are explained on their website. On some (electrical) goods they have guarantees of extra year(s) in addition to the one provided by manufacturers. See their website for details.DeliveryThey offer free delivery. Taking away your old goods is for a charge. I paid £9 to have my old washing machine taken away. It had to be detached. A good idea. When you detach it you find the floor underneath needs cleaning which can take time, longer than the detaching. Maybe that's why they tell you to detach the machine so they are not delayed by householders cleaning floors. Some time ago I had to pay £30 to remove the old kingsize bed, which had to be collected by a different van the previous day in order to make room for the new one. (Different company, though organized by John Lewis - and neither could specify exact time.)More informationThis branch and the John Lewis group both have web sites which link. For the Harlequin centre see theharlequin.uk.comCar parks open one hour before the centre and close one hour after. The centre's doors open an hour before the shops. But close half an hour after. No more window shopping. Run!
