  • 1 Rude and intimidating

I started riding at Bucks Meadow at the age of 9. If it wasn't for the fact that i fell in love with horses - i would've stopped. The lessons were packed in an average indoor school and were extremly monotonous. I did a few pony weeks there during which i got yelled at for making a beginners mistake (something that could've been resolved with a quiet word and not humiliation) nearly reducing me to tears. The owner is very intimidating and unfriendly - i can honestly say i never saw her smile. I have now moved house and am riding at Greenacres Equestrian harpenden where in my first lesson there i learnt to canter (having spent the previous 2 years barely trotting) and am now jumping 3ft and riding beautiful horses. Greenacres are very friendly and welcoming and I now relax whilst riding and most of all smile.

  • 1 Rude & unprofessional reception!

I recently visited Bucks Meadow to check out their livery facilities. The yard was pretty good and tidy. They have decent indoor and 2 outdoor schools. However, I would NEVER take my business there due to the unprofessional and exceptionally rude reception I received. The owner asked where I am currently based then proceeded to hurl a torrent of abuse regarding the yard I use, accusing them of hitting the horses (they don’t), telling me I was incorrect on facts such as who owns and teaches there! She would not even give me the chance to correct her. I wanted to turn round and leave, but didn't want to be confrontational. She made me feel I was inferior and made fun of another livery client for being a 'novice'. Apparently she has forgotten that we all have to start somewhere. Unless you are extremely experienced - give this place a wide birth as you may be made to feel as unwelcome as I was. If you want to friendly approach you'd be better off going to Jacks, or Grove Farm.
